Swing Co., phosphorus removal and recovery technologies won the "Excellent Presentation Award"

15.Nov.2011
  • The presentation of our research results on the cause analysis of scale formation in digested sludge, and the effect of our REPHOSMASTER - MAP type, a system for removing and recovering phosphorus from digested sludge, won the Excellent Presentation Award at the 48th Sewage Research Conference.
The award recognizes our phosphorus removal and recovery technologies, and the knowledge about digested sludge we have gained through the maintenance and management of sewage treatment plants.

Practical use of sewage sludge and various problems

  • As energy issues become an increasing concern, digester gas has gradually come into use as an energy source. Meanwhile, it is known that part of the phosphorus and nitrogen, released to solution in digester, becomes MAP (magnesium ammonium phosphate) crystals, which adhere to the inside of pipes and sludge treatment systems, causing operational problems.

Purpose of this research

  • By predicting MAP formation in digested sludge, the research aims to contribute to preventive maintenance and to prevent operational problems caused by MAP. The research also aims to quantitatively evaluate the suppressing effect of operational problems by removing phosphorus from digested sludge.

Features of “REPHOSMASTER - MAP type”

  • The REPHOSMASTER - MAP type reduces the phosphorus load in water treatment facilities by removing and recovering phosphorus as form of MAP from digested sludge. The system also reduces operational problems by reducing the formation of MAP in the treated sludge. The recovered MAP can further be reused as a valuable phosphorus resource.
